RecycleHero, it’s already been a year since you have joined BEM’s Team. Happy birthday! What have you been doing during all this time?
Already a year?! It’s crazy how time flies but, above all, a big thank you to all of you for celebrating it!
To answer your question: I had the chance to discover the island with BEM Recycling. Through various awareness campaigns, we were able to promote the benefits of a circular economy and sustainable development.
Also, we are working on some beautiful projects that will materialize very soon…stay tuned !!
Any spoilers for our followers? Can we know more?
Like all people, I do hate spoilers but don’t worry, I’ll get back to you very soon for more reveals! But stay connected with our networks as the announcements are definitely nearing.
We are in 2022 now. Have you noticed an awareness (an evolution) at the level of Mauritian households in relation to their management of electrical and electronic waste?
With the advent of New Information and Communication Technologies (NTIC), we find ourselves more and more connected and surrounded by electronic gadgets, but we are also talking about planned obsolescence. Hence, it’s important to take into account the proper recycling when they are reaching their end of life.
As such, thanks to our friends of The Good Shop and The Charity Centre, as no less than 7.5 tons of WEEE have been collected since BEM Recycling partnered with them. To get a better idea, this is equivalent to 62 baby elephants…a big thank you to these two wonderful institutions for their daily commitments and support!
We can also say a big thanks to the various companies that have organized internal WEEE collection campaigns for their employees. It’s really nice to see such kind of initiative!
Do you think that these actions taken are sufficient to fight against pollution on our island?
I guess that you are talking about wild dumps and unfortunately it is true that we come across a lot of them as soon as we leave the main roads. Nevertheless, there are also many civic initiatives (NGOs, neighborhood groups, associations, etc.) that encourage the population to be more responsible. It’s a long fight but I sincerely think we’re on the right track.
A final word?
We only have one planet, let’s respect it!
